Arizona State Land Permit

Yes you do, unless you are activly in the persuit of game.
Arizona State Land is not publice land, but was develped it the 1800's as a funding resource for the Arizona School System. The trust manages 9.3 million acers and approximately 90 percent of the revenue generated from sales of leased land supports k - 12 Education.
So, to allow you to cross ASLD you will need to purchase a recreational permit. The permit allows you to cross and stop on state land.
You can get an ASLD permit online at: ASLD Rec Permit or call 602-364-2453.
The permit is $15 a year for an individual and $20 for a family.
State land is interspersed with other public and private property in the state of Arizona, so you never know when you are on ASLD.

What does the decal money do?

The OHV decal provides a funding mechanizm for the motorized recreation community. This funding is administered through the Arizona State Parks and is provided to agencies and non profit organizations for motorized recreational projects. The funds also supports rider education in Arizona.
Thirty percent of the funds collected goes into the states Highway User Revenue Fund, which is distributed to counties and cities for road and highway maintenance. The remaining 70 percent of the funds are split as follows:
  • 60% goes to Arizona State Pakrs for grants and agreements, trail construction, development and maintenance, signage and maps.
  • 35% goes to the Arizona Game and Fish Department for law enforcement, education and outreach.
  • 5% goes to the Arizona State Land Department for mitigation, signage and enforcement.

What has been funded with OHV Funds?

Since the beginning of the decal many projects have been completed that have benefited the motorized recreation community.
The grant projects have included staging areas, parking areas, signage, maps, user facilities, route/road inventory and many other necessities that the OHV community would not have otherwise.
Below is a list of grant funded projects in Arizona. This list is not compete yet it is a work in progress. Below is many, many hours of research to try to find information about past grants. Unfortunately, information on some of these grants is hard to find because they were never listed on the Arizona State Parks Website. Rebecca Antle has spent many hours researching past meeting minutes of the Arizona Off Highway Vehicle Advisory Board, past information received on grant projects, websites an any other location this information might be found.
This is just the beginning of putting all of this information out to the public and there might be some inconsistencies and errors. As more information becomes available these will be fixed
